- Examine facility and environmental monitoring requirements.
- Investigate the compounding process from receipt of components to dispensing of nonsterile compounded preparations.
- Interpret requirements for employee training and competency.
- Distinguish responsibilities of the designated person.
Pharmacy Techs will learn to:
- Examine facility and environmental monitoring to assist with meeting requirements.
- Utilize appropriate compounding techniques for nonsterile compounded preparations.
- Employ responsibilities as a designated person.

- Utilize appropriate techniques for handling of hazardous drugs.

- Examine facility and environmental monitoring requirements.
- Differentiate between immediate-use, category 1, category 2, and activities outside the scope of <797>.
- Investigate when a master formulation record and compounding record are needed.
- Employ strategies to assign BUDs and determine testing requirements.
- Interpret requirements for employee training and competency.
- Distinguish responsibilities of the designated person.
Pharmacy Techs will learn to:
- Utilize appropriate compounding techniques for sterile compounded preparations
- Follow requirements for use of Master Formula Records and Compounding Records as well as assigning BUDs and testing requirements.
- Employ responsibilities as a designated person.

About the presenters
Brenda Jensen, CPhT, CNMT, MBA, Owner/Consultant, Compounding Consultants
Brenda’s pharmacy experience began in 1984 as a pharmacy specialist in the US Air Force and she has been involved in pharmacy one way or another since then (including retail and hospital pharmacy, nonsterile and sterile compounding, oncology and nuclear pharmacy).
Currently Brenda is an owner at Compounding Consultants in Sioux Falls, S. Dak., where she has helped hundreds of pharmacies across the country improve compounding quality and safety.
Brenda belongs to several pharmacy-related organizations and currently serves as coordinator of the APhA Compounding Special Interest Group, on the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists Foundation Board of Directors, and the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists Board of Directors.
Bryan Prince, MBA, Compounding Workflow & Lab Design Specialist
Bryan Prince, MBA, is a compounding workflow and lab designer, and the owner of Lab Red Pharmacy Consultants LLC and specializes in USP <800> compliance. With over 15 years of construction management and pharmaceutical containment technology experience, Bryan has gained extensive knowledge of chemical handling techniques, safety strategies, and facility design. Since 2012, Bryan has had the unique experience of observing and advising compounding pharmacies on industry specific best practices relating to workflow habits and technologies. Bryan has published numerous articles on compounding pharmacy workflow design and containment. Bryan has been the invited speaker at conferences on workflow and USP <800> throughout the U.S. for several compounding related companies, groups, and associations.
